Nuzzle / My Friend Chopper Split Single “Bencht” b/w ”Local 39” - Chopper Records 1993
Always strange to run across records by your old friend’s bands and memories of your youth.

Shifting gears in the middle of the week, but I got a little shopping done yesterday in Portland. I haven’t been finding much on eBay lately that doesn’t get bid too high, so back to digging.
I’ve been finding more and more reissues in the bins. I like Jazzman over in the U.K., but they’re pretty expensive over here. If you don’t have to pay shipping, it’s that much better. I think they might sound a little different than an original, but you can save thousands of dollars.
I first heard about Rojac and the Third Guitar early on from this article in Complex. Even this reissue was pricey, but it has an early version of “Baby Don’t Cry” as a B side. An original just sold for $600.
Needless to say, this is one of my favorite discoveries over the past year and I can’t wait to unleash it! Uhh!

We found this one at 99 Cent records. I took a quick listen based on the band name. A Clockwork Orange had come out in 1962.
It had a vague Beach Boys sound somewhere in the middle, and a nice folk rock sound throughout. Then it turns out it might be worth a few dollars. That’s nice!
I will be playing this record and many other good ones at Plan B in Portland for Mod Movie Night. Starts around 8pm.

Yeah, it was the Mummies!! Secret show, no costumes. Let’s go way back!
1991, and I was flipping through the racks at Vinyl Solution in Huntington Beach. I came across “Never Been Caught”, with four mummies standing on an ambulance. It was a really creepy image, and I thought “Ah yes, this is for me!”. I’ve heard this happened for many people. These are my people.
It didn’t hurt that the LP was a fuckin’ face-melter! I haven’t looked back. When the Mummies came to Costa Mesa that year, I didn’t go because my punk rock show goin’ buddy had tickets to SANTANA! I know, but if the Mummies are to be believed, that show would’ve been absolute shit. Who did they think they were, the next KISS?
Anyway, that show in Oakland in 2008 still gives me the shakes and the shivers.
Thanks! SF Garage scene!

Two down, one to go. If only this blog was called “1000 dollar records”! The Third Guitar, famous for “Baby Don’t Cry” and its face-melter breaks, came out with this great, moody, Northern Soul, funky blend in ‘68. I love the Rojac sound!
I got outbid a few times at around $45 for it, but I got this rougher copy for less.
I’m saving a lucky quarter for when I come across the Third’s third at the Goodwill.
DJ Fuzzprobe
Today brings a brand new episode of “For The Record with DJ Fuzzprobe”. I’m happy to have interviewed Dr. Scott. I’m also happy that he let me handle some very valuable records, even though I didn’t know it at the time. See Dr. Scott, Primo, and Lucky at Nightbeat, every 4th Saturday at Edinburgh Castle. I can testify, don’t miss it!
