DJ Von Tussle and I will be spinning hits from the 70s and 80s down on Belmont in Portland Oregon. Come on by!

Here’s another one from my OC days. I haven’t thought a lot about X over the years, but they are a pretty great band. John Doe and Exene have a great vocal chemistry. This is the only X record I’ve come across while digging! I would love to have “White Girl” and of course “Los Angeles”!
I could post the album version, but I’m happy that this is one of their live favorites. This version is from a live album that came out in 1988!
John Doe was in Boogie Nights, too!
See you tonight at the Matador Bar, 1967 W. Burnside!

Thank you estate sale! I had never heard of this song or band. Who listens to the radio anymore? I do!
This record came along right as KUSF got booted off the air in San Francisco. I finally got to hang out at SF City Hall during their rallies. Do what you can to help KUSF!

This record means you’re simpatico with me. I love that word and I try to use it as much as I can. I try to meet as many people that are that word as well. It’s always tough.
I was playing Bingo on Nob Hill around October 2009. My life was getting ready to change in a big way, but I was having fun and meeting some simpatico people. One person called the bingo numbers and handed out free shots for “O-69”, others were on our team. This song came up on the bar’s iPod and I started remembering how much I loved it, and realized that all the ’80s were lying there, ready for rediscovery.
After I started this bee-ell-o-gee, I found another one that I consider simpatico. We have many of the same records, on the 45 format even. He has more picture sleeves than me, though.
Berlin is another L.A. touchstone for me. They were on a label called Enigma which put out a lot of great music until 1989. We always play at least one of their hits for Kids In America, our 80s night, usually with Romeo Void or Billy Idol.
Find all your resources and put them in one place.

In the early ‘00s, I played a lot of Grand Theft Auto. I just liked being able to zone out and drive around, doing drive-bys, and listening to the great radio stations. There was K-DST, Wave 103, Mastersounds 98.3, Radio Espantoso, and many others. It’s always fun to learn your way around a new town, even if it doesn’t really exist. Memory is the most awesome thing. Have you ever seen “Vertigo”?
For a while, I collected the playlists of some of those radio stations. The songs sounded good together, so why not? This song was featured on Wave 103 in Vice City.
After buying records for a few weeks, we got our own 80s night. Of course, we couldn’t find everything we wanted on our record store runs, so we had to shop online. This was one of the first 80s records we bought for more than $2. It’s a promo, so it has the hit on both sides.
I remember hearing this song here and there, probably in some movie or maybe on KROQ a few times. Romeo Void was another San Francisco band in the early ‘80s and this is an amazing song. This fits in with some of our other new wave hits, and I put it on our 80s mix CD.
I think tomorrow we’ll take some pictures of our Portland record store excursion.
