Here’s an early garage favorite. This song sounds like it could’ve been written by the Beatles. I like this video too.
I’ve been steadily getting better copies of this record. This is my second one. If I see a copy in better condition, I might get it. I got the sleeve from a cracked copy of another Knickerbockers record.
I remember seeing my friend Troy DJ at the Casanova. I requested this and he had it with him. It has a great hyped up sound and really gets a floor moving.

Ahh, is there anything as good as Love? What about loving lovers who love Love? And scented candles. Mmm.
I’m here to tell you today that gluing works. Gluing? Gluey Louie? It’s when you cover a vinyl record with wood glue, wait 5 hours, and peel it off, removing dirt from deep within the grooves. Here, let me show you.
It worked on this record. It sounds a lot clearer, even thought it’s a face melter. To think this band recorded this and “Alone Again Or” in the same year! Wes Anderson used this song in “Bottle Rocket” as well.

Lookit that li’l green record! This is another from Record Store Day. It’s a reissue of the “lost” single from the 13th Floor Elevators, planned but never pressed. Since their 45s can be pricey, I wanted to get this one. I hadn’t even heard the song, but it floored me when I played it.
I almost hear the Banana Splitz singing those la-la-la’s! I love the spacey guitar sounds too. I went back and bought the companion single a week later. They now have permanent positions in our garage set.

I still remember pulling that used CD of Kick Out The Jams at Streetlight in Santa Cruz. My friend telling me “Oh, you’ll like the MC5”. And first hearing the madness that is that album. The interview with Wayne Kramer where he says how proud they were to get their 100 watt Vox amps in 1968, which made them the loudest band in Detroit. I like the MC5.
This was a nice reissue to come across. “Kick Out The Jams” on one side and “Motor City Is Burning” on the other. Black Panther Snipers, why isn’t there a band with that name? We all read a lot about Detroit these days. The ruin porn, everyone wants to think that is our future, so what is the renewal strategy? Self flagellation. Ruins reclaimed by nature.
If ya ask me, this is the high society! This is the high society!

You might not know, but I do, that today is my birthday. I was lucky enough to be born on the summer solstice, so I get to share this day with many people and events and things. Just like any good Gemini cusper should!
One person I share it with is Ray Davies, he of the Kinks and his solo career. We don’t find too many Kinks records out there, but here is a good one we found at the KUSF swap last year.
A jukebox double-A side, All Day And All Of The Night and Tired Of Waiting For You. Minty and they both sound great! I’ve been playing All Day a lot lately. It really amps things up.
